In the recent weeks, I have found myself drawn back to the affective domains of our grand profession (or any profession for that matter). I'm talking about that side of any job that doesn't necessarily have to do with knowledge or competence. I'm thinking of the ideas of passion, energy and spirit. If I'm honest with myself, I'm more drawn to that knowledge, competence and often forget that it is passion, energy and spirit that create and drive a school's identity and culture. There is a great deal of job satisfaction that is rooted here.
What are the things that get us grounded in the work that we do? My assertion today, is that the things that we are passionate about are the things that bring us back day after day and when we find ourselves discouraged and beat down are the times when we have become distant to those things with which we are most passionate about. The day to day requirements of our jobs do not necessarily allow us to make those connections actively. How, again, do we remain grounded? I have decided that in order to get (and remain) grounded, is to actively explore and share my passions with in this forum, with possibility of engaging my PLN in sharing their thoughts and ideas in remaining grounded and be an active encouragement and support to each other!
